Fishing
Great Basin is home to some great fishing spots, however, a Nevada state fishing permit is required. The park does not sell fishing permits.
Plan Around Fishing
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Fishing Details
The best places to fish in the park are Lehman Creek, Baker Creek, Snake Creek, Strawberry Creek, Baker Lake, Shingle Creek or Williams Creek. See the list below for fish at each spot. Worms are the only kind of live bait permitted in the park to help prevent the introduction of non-native species and rod and reel fishing is the only kind of fishing allowed. Residents and nonresidents age 12 and older must have a valid Nevada fishing license. Residents age 65 and older may be eligible for a discounted fishing license. Resident children 12 to 15 years of age may obtain a junior fishing license. Nonresident persons under the age of 12 are entitled to a limit not to exceed 50% of the established limit for that water. - **Lehman Creek:** Brown, brook and rainbow trout. - **Baker Creek:** Brown, brook, and rainbow trout. - **Snake Creek:** Brown and brook trout. - **Strawberry Creek:** Catch and release Bonneville cutthroat trout. - **Baker Lake:** Brook and Lahontan cutthroat trout. - **Shingle or Williams Creeks**: Rainbow trout.
