Guided Tours at Gateway Arch Details

Looking to go beyond the view and really dig in to the history of Gateway Arch? A ranger-led guided tour is your ticket to a deeper, more immersive experience. These 45-minute programs offer more than just facts-they deliver engaging stories and insights that bring the monument, museum, and surrounding historic sites to life. Perfect for school field trips, youth groups, adult learners, or anyone curious, the tours highlight key themes like the westward expansion of the United States, the founding of St. Louis, and pivotal events such as the Dred Scott case. You'll explore exhibits in the Museum at the Gateway Arch, learn about the Arch's iconic design, and, when available, visit nearby landmarks like Luther Ely Smith Square or the Old Courthouse. Tours are free, but reservations are required at least 30 days in advance. Planning a spring visit? Book early-May is the park's busiest month for groups, and space fills fast. Group sizes are capped for a quality experience: 20 students for younger age groups and 30 people for older students or adults. Larger groups can be divided into multiple sessions to ensure everyone gets the full experience. Tours begin at the Information Desk inside the Visitor Center, and while you're welcome to pack a lunch, groups are asked to eat outside or on their buses, as food isn't permitted in the museum. Also, keep in mind that guided tours do not include tram rides to the top or movie tickets, so plan those separately if you want the full Arch experience. Pro Tip: Pair a tour with a riverboat cruise or tram ride for a full day of fun and learning. A guided tour is the perfect way to turn your visit into a meaningful, story-rich adventure.
