Wildlife Viewing Details

There are no designated wildlife-viewing areas in the park. However with four diverse habitats-- bog, boreal forest, coniferous forest and lake--the park is home to hundreds of species of wild animals which you are sure to encounter during your visit. Along the lakes you'll find beavers, otters and maybe even a moose. Eagles and osprey also nest in trees along the lake shore. In very remote coves of the park, loons sometimes nest. Inland you'll find (or hear) wolf, deer, black bear, fisher and grouse. Most of these species live deep in the forest, though at night or in the dead of winter you might hear the, or come across their footprints in the snow. Some of these animals, like wolf and moose, are more secretive and less social than others. You might catch a wolf on a forested hiking trail, and occasionally a moose (moose hang out around lakes as well as in the forest). Black Bear are a very common site, especially where there is food. Know how to act in the event of a bear encounter. During the winter, many smaller mammals come out. Muskrat, weasel, otter, snowshoe hare and fox can all be seen scampering across the frozen lakes.
