Voyageurs Tour Boat Kettle Falls Cruise Details
On select Sundays in September, the tour boat _Voyageur_ departs from the Rainy Lake boat launch for the historic Kettle Falls Hotel and dam. You can enjoy a 2.5-hour boat ride followed by two hours of lunching and exploring on the historic Kettle Falls site. Kettle Falls used to be a hub of local activity -- Native American tribes floating the waters as they hunted or picked berries, while voyageurs came through on their fur-trading routes. In 1910, a dam was built at the falls. Construction of the hotel followed soon afterwards. The hotel's early clientele were the workers who built the dam, followed by fishermen, trappers, and lumberjacks. In 1918, Robert Williams purchased the hotel and it soon became known for its hearty meals and warm atmosphere; today, visitors can still enjoy that tradition. The park service renovated the hotel in 1987. The Voyageur Kettle Falls Cruise has a minimum of 22 passengers (if not enough visitors sign up, the tour does not depart), and costs $45 for adults and $22.50 for children. Toddlers under the age of two board the ship for $3. The boat departs from the dock next to the Rainy Lake Visitor Center at 10 a.m. and returns at 4:30 p.m., making this an all-day trip. Reservations are recommended.
