Snowmobiling Details
Snowmobiling is one of the more popular means of getting around the park during the winter. Voyageurs National Park is one of only a few national parks in the Lower 48 that permit recreational snowmobiling. There is actually a system of designated snowmobile trails, most of which travel across the frozen lakes. There are a few inland snowmobile trails, which are used as portages to bypass areas where the lake ice is routinely unsafe to drive. Be careful when snowmobiling across the frozen lakes, and obey all posted signs-- especially the ones with "thin ice" warnings.
