Hiking Details
Voyageurs National Park has roughly 57 miles of hiking trails varying from easy to strenuous, and from short hour-long walks to half-day or full-day excursions. Some of these trails, like the 28-mile Kab-Ash trail system, are located on the mainland, and the trailheads are accessible by car. Others, like the Cruiser Lake Trail and the Beast Lake Trail, are located on the Kabegotagama Peninsula, and are only accessible by boat or by ice road in the winter. Hiking is a great way to explore the forests, hills, wetlands and shoreline of the park, and see some local wildlife. You can ascend rocky outcroppings, venture through the forest or traverse across bogs, wetlands and sandy shoreline. Thanks to a donation by the Coca-Cola corporation, Voyageurs National Park is able to provide a Hike to Health program. Pick up a free Hike to Health goody bag, complete with informational guides and a trail passport, at any visitor center. Each trail in the park has a unique Hike to Health raised stamp, which you can stamp into your passport by holding the appropriate page over the stamp and rubbing over it with a pencil. By completing five or ten trails (or all of them!) you can earn stickers, stamps and certificates of recognition. The program is an attempt at encouraging people to get healthy and get outside.
