Grand Tour Details
This two and a half hour tour of Rainy Lake is great for the whole family. Rangers facilitate wildlife viewing over the course of the tour, including pointing out eagle nests along the lake shores (there are several). The boat also takes you to an active commercial fishing operation, where you observe a large-scale fishing operation in action. Finally, the boat stops on Little American Island, where you can opt to take a quarter-mile hike through the remains of the gold mine and camp from the Rainy Lake gold rush of the 1890s. The gold rush ended just as quick as it began, and in a few short years, the mine had been abandoned almost entirely intact. Today you can still see old pilings, pipelines and more. The tour has a four-person minimum (if not enough visitors sign up, the tour does not depart) and costs $30 for adults and $15 for kids. Toddlers under the age of two board the ship for $3. The tour is available Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 2:00pm from June 19th through September 3rd. The tour departs from the dock next to the Rainy Lake Visitor Center.
