Fishing Details
Fishing is a big deal in Voyageurs National Park. With 84,000 acres of water, from large lakes to small interior lakes, the park's fishing opportunities are diverse and abundant. The region is particularly famous for its Walleye, a close relative of Pike, and is considered to be one of the best places for walleye fishing in the country, if not the world. The area also has the best smallmouth bass fishing in Minnesota, as well as Lake Sturgeon, Northern Pike and Black Crappie. During the winter, ice fishing is a popular pastime. Those wishing to fish here need to acquire a Minnesota state fishing license, which costs $37.50 annually for non-residents and $17.50 annually for residents. Children under the age of 16 do not need to pay this fee. Follow all possession and release regulations associated with the state fishing license. In the backcountry areas along the interior lakes of the Kabetogama peninsula, fishing is allowed with artificial bait only, to prevent the spread of invasive species.
