Canoe Tours Details

If you want to explore the park more actively, opt for a ranger-led canoe tour. At Rainy Lake, you can either take a North Canoe Tour or a Beaver Lodge Canoe Tour. On the North Canoe Tour, participants paddle a traditional 26-foot birch bark canoe. These were the canoes that the original voyageurs paddled hundreds of years ago as they traveled the boundary waters trapping and trading furs. Today, you can take a step back in time to experience the waters the way our predecessors did - practice the Voyageur's paddle salute, paddle with traditional paddles and reenact the history of the region. Everyone in the boat must paddle, and be ready to laugh! This free tour is available from June 20 through August 17, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. The minimum age for this trip is five and it departs from the Rainy Lake Visitor Center. The North Canoe tour is also available form the Kabetogama Visitor Center. This tour is available from June 21 through August 18, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. The Beaver Lodge Canoe Tour is great for those with an interest in nature and wildlife. The focus of the two-hour trip is to visit an active beaver dam, where you can observe the beavers in their natural habitat while learning about these animals. You will also be able to explore Rainy Lake's Black Bay. This trip is also free, and open to anyone above the age of five, but all participants are required to paddle. The tour is available From June 21 through August 20 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. It departs from the Rainy Lake Visitor Center as well.
