Scuba Diving
Brave the cold waters and dive into Lake Superiors underwater world of sunken ships.

Scuba Diving Details
Experienced SCUBA divers will want to don their wet suits (though dry suits are recommended) and explore the underwater world of Isle Royale National Park and Lake Superior. Nine ship wrecks await your exploration, but there are a few things to consider before taking the plunge. The surface water of Lake Superior rarely reaches 55 degrees Fahrenheit, and in as little as 50 feet those temperatures plunge to 34 to 37 degrees Fahrenheit; a full wet suit is necessary, and park rangers recommend a dry suit for extra warmth. Before taking the plunge, all SCUBA divers must register at one of the parks three visitor centers. Know before you go, too, that there aren't any facilities for filling air tanks within the park, and there are park regulations for using personal compressors on the dive permits. Once you're in the water, be sure a dive flag marks where you'll be submerged. If you're night diving, your dive flag must be lit between sunset and sunrise. [Isle Royal Charters](http://isleroyalecharters.com/) is the park-authorized company to lead dive trips within the park. Check with them for rates, schedules, reservations and accommodations.
