This 28.5-mile-long trail was constructed to allow firefighters access to the northern part of the island. Connecting McCargoe Cove to Windigo, it's rugged, undeveloped and loosely maintained, providing a nice backcountry feel. Constant ascents and descents along with long sections of stone footing make this a challenging hike. However, rewards like few crowds, abundant wildllife and spectacular views of Canada make it all worth the trouble.
