Day hikers will enjoying the park on any number of short and long hikes, accessible from both Rock Harbor and Windigo, ferry transportation drop-off points. If youre staying longer in the park, the backcountry beckons. Regardless of which type of hiking you choose, be sure to bring with you water, snacks, rain gear and a First Aid kit, and wear sturdy boots or broken-in tennis shoes to navigate the rough and uneven terrain. Hiking safety tips from the park include being prepared not only with your shoes, but for the changing weather; think layering. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, and know how to hike to avoid hazards (e.g. step over logs and tree roots). And drink plenty of water, eat enough and take frequent breaks to restore your energy.
