Greenstone Ridge Trail Details
This 40-mile long trail is the mother of all hikes on Isle Royale. It takes its name from the green-hued stones that are found dotted along it. The path, which follows along the top of Greenstone Ridge, extends from Windigo Harbor on the island's west side to Rock Harbor on its east. On this hike you'll climb several peaks including Mount Desor, which is the highest point in the park. Wolves and moose can be found in the woodlands beside the trail. Other interesting ecosystems you'll pass include swamps and lakes.
