Camping Details

The park has 36 campgrounds across the island from which to choose to spend the night, from those found on the Lake Superior shoreline to others further inland. All campsites are accessible only by foot or watercraft (e.g. boat, canoe, kayak). Permits are free but required for anyone staying overnight in the park; everyone in the park must pay a $4 per person, per day user fee. Campgrounds are first come, first serve basis for small groups of six or few people; groups of seven to 10 must have advance reservations, no groups of more than 10 are permitted, so you may have to split your group if it exceeds 10 people. There is a $25 processing charge for group camping reservations. All campgrounds feature tent sites, a potable water source and outhouses; fires are not allowed at most of the islands campgrounds.
