Red Maple Swamp Trail Details
The half-mile Red Maple Swamp Trail features boardwalks that meander through the heart of the swamp, which is especially pretty in the fall. You can access the boardwalk from the Fort Hill Trail or at Hemenway Landing, where a segment is wheelchair accessible. The walk is easy but doesn't loop unless you hook up with part of the Fort Hill Trail and follow it back to Hemenway Landing. Expect the hike to take about half an hour. (Note: Sections of the Red Maple Swamp Trail have been closed due to structural deterioration and safety concerns. Visitors should check at the Salt Pond Visitor Center for the current status of this trail. A section of the boardwalk does remain open at the trailhead at Fort Hill Road, off Route 6.)
