Fort Hill Area

The Fort Hill area has a little bit of everything that makes the Cape Cod National Seashore great -- nature, history, and outdoor activities. The Captain Edward Penniman House is not only a great example of mid-19th Century Second Empire architecture but also offers wonderful insights into the life of a whaling captain's life on the Outer Cape. Hiking trails lead you around and down Fort Hill to Nauset Swamp, passing through a glacier-carved landscape with Native American artifacts and great views out to sea. Want to get even closer to the water? The trails lead to Hemenway Landing, where you can put your own canoe or kayak into Salt Pond Bay or join an organized boating excursion.
