Race Point Lighthouse Details
Not only is circa 1876 Race Point Lighthouse open to visitors on the first and third Saturdays of every month from June to October, you also can stay overnight in the Keeper's House or the Whistle House. The only catch: you'll need an off-road vehicle (and a permit from the National Park Service) or strong legs to get there, since it's two-miles over soft sand from Provincetown. The Park Service may shut down tours when federally protected piping-plover chicks are hatching, so call ahead. Docent-led tours include all of the lighthouse structures, including the lamp room, and there's a small gift shop selling the usual t-shirts as well as scrimshaw and other handmade items.
