Province Lands Trail Details
The Cape Cod National Seashore's longest bike path is also its best, most diverse, and most challenging. The 5.4-mile main loop trail begins at the Province Lands Visitor Center in Provincetown, and has three spurs leading 1.1-mile to Herring Cove Beach, a half-mile to Race Point Beach, and a quarter-mile to Bennett Pond. You'll pass through forests and sand dunes, with views of the ocean and the Pilgrim Monument from the hilltops. The path is quite hilly, has some tricky turns and tunnels, and you may encounter unexpected problems like sand blowing across the path -- a skidding hazard -- and even water covering the pavement at times. Speeding bikers have caused many accidents, so a 10-mile-per-hour speed limit is strictly enforced. With its unique hazards, this trail may be a bit too much if you are a novice biker or an inline skater, but is well worth the effort if you take it slow and stop to enjoy the many sights along the way.
