Pilgrim Monument Details
This tower was erected on High Point Hill to commemorate a little-known fact: the Pilgrims on the Mayflower landed on Cape Cod before they decided to settle in Plymouth in 1620. The tallest all-granite structure in the U.S., the 252-foot monument was completed in 1910. The Provincetown Museum including displays on the community's cultural, maritime and Native American history, a re-creation of a 19th-century sea captain's parlor, and information on the Pilgrims, who stayed here long enough to sign the Mayflower Compact before moving on to Plymouth. The tower and museum are open for tours daily April to November; the admission fee allows you to browse the exhibits and climb the 116 steps to the top, where you'll enjoy views of Provincetown Harbor, the beaches, and the sea.
