Bicycling Details
There are several official cycling trails along the National Seashore: Eastham: The Nauset Trail spans 1.6 miles and runs from the Salt Pond Visitor Center to the Doane Rock picnic area. Truro: The Head of the Meadow Trail runs two miles and stretches from High Head Road to the Meadow Beach parking area. Fees may apply in the high season. Provincetown: The Province Lands Trail offers several cycling paths, from a five-and-a-half mile loop to a series of small trails and spurs. Access is available at the Province Lands Visitor Center, the Beech Forest parking area, Race Point Beach, and Herring Cove Beach. If you're feeling ambitious, take a chunk out of the Cape Cod Rail Trail, a paved path running along 22 miles of former Old Colony Rail Road right-of-way from Dennis to Wellfleet. Bicycle Safety Bicycle accidents cause the most injuries to visitors recreating at Cape Cod National Seashore. Wear a helmet when riding a bike. The State of Massachusetts helmet law is enforced within the seashore. Safety helmets are required for those under age 16 riding bikes (even as a passenger), inline skating, scootering, and skateboarding. Helmets are strongly suggested for all riders, regardless of age. Ride single file to the right. Don't speed. Be alert for hills, sharp turns, and other riders and walkers. There may be windblown sand, standing water, pine needles, and raised asphalt from tree roots on the path. If you have an unfamiliar bike, check brakes, gears, and steering before entering a trail.
