Hunt (Appalachian) Trail Details
From the Katahdin Stream Campground, follow the white blazes for the Appalachian Trail (AT) from along the north side of the river for 1.1 mile to where the summit trail of "The Owl" bears left. Just beyond here you will cross over a log bridge and turn left up ledges 200 yards to Katahdin Stream Falls. The trail proceeds to the southeast of Whitherle Ravine and goes through the forest for 1.5 miles when you come across a cave made by two boulders. Next you encounter a boulder field, then Hunts Spur becoming very steep and difficult until you reach "The Gateway". Upon reaching the Tablelands, The Hunt Trail continues for 1 mile to the summit. Katahdin hikes from parking lots require a full day (8-10 hours round trip). Important on all hikes, but especially important on Katahdin hikes; carry a minimum of 2 quarts of water per person.
