Friends of Baxter State Park Details
Friends of Baxter State Park is an independent citizen group working to preserve, support and enhance the wilderness character of Baxter State Park in the spirit of its founder, Governor Percival Baxter. The Friends have provided significant and helpful support to the Park's trail maintenance efforts through grant applications, financial support of Maine Conservation Corp trail crews and by providing trained volunteer crews to assist with trail clearing efforts and other Park projects. The Friends also organize an annual Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program to introduce high school students to wilderness through a multi-day backpacking trip through Baxter State Park.
