Bicycling
Bicycles are allowed on the maintained roads throughout the Park, with the exception of the SFMA.
Plan Around Bicycling
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Bicycling Details
Bicycles are allowed on the maintained roads throughout the Park, with the exception of roads in the SFMA portion of the Park, due to the logging operations. However please note that most bicyclists report greater enjoyment biking on the north end of the Park rather than the busy south end. Park visitors on the south end are often very focused on reaching Katahdin trailheads early in the day and traffic coming from Katahdin trailheads is also heavy at the end of the day. Helmets are strongly advised and riders area cautioned to be aware of the loose gravel surfacing and narrow roads where oncoming cars have reduced line-sight visibility.
