Wildlife Details
Acadia National Park's relative small size and location on the coast results in a limited variety of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles in the Park, especially larger ones. Although moose and black bears have been spotted in Acadia before, don't count on it. You are much more likely to come across red squirrels, fox, raccoons, the occasional deer, bats, and other small rodents. If you spend enough time along the coast of Maine, you are bound to see a seal sunbathing on the rocks or floating in the bay, especially if you venture out to Isle au Haut in the middle of Penobscot Bay. For the birders out there, Acadia offers the perfect spot to explore with your binoculars. The Acadia National Park Service boasts a record 338 species encountered in the Park and considers itself "one of the premier bird-watching areas in the country." Cadillac Mountain is the perfect spot to "hawkWatch" and witness the soaring birds search for lunch.
