Fabbri Picnic Area Details
The Fabbri Picnic Area is a scenic and well-equipped spot on the Otter Cliff peninsula of Mount Desert Island, accessible via Otter Cliff Road or the Park Loop Road. With a parking lot accommodating around two dozen vehicles, a modern restroom facility, and numerous picnic tables-each with its own grill-the site offers a convenient place for visitors to enjoy an outdoor meal. While some tables are located near the parking area, a short trail leads to more secluded spots in the woods. A small grouping of four tables with a shared grill may appeal to those planning informal gatherings, though tables cannot be moved, and all are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For larger gatherings of 30 or more, a permit is required but does not guarantee table availability. Named after Alessandro Fabbri, a local resident and naval officer, the site holds historical significance as the former location of a critical World War I radio station. Fabbri's contributions to naval communications earned him the Navy Cross, and a memorial across the road from the picnic area honors his service. The tranquil setting, shaded by towering trees and offering proximity to Acadia's stunning coastal landscapes, makes this a pleasant, historically rich place to relax and enjoy nature.
