Eagle Lake Loop Details
Trail Type: Moderate Distance: 6 miles This popular biking trail begins on Eagle Lake Road, where it passes under one of Acadia's old granite bridges and follows the western edge of Eagle Lake. After passing Posts 6 and 9, the trail begins a series of long ascents through a lush forest, leaving the lakeshore behind as it climbs a large hill to Post 8. Although there are good glimpses of Jordan Pond and the surrounding area from the top of the hill, most views are obscured by the dense hemlock and pine forest. A right at Post 10 leads to the famous Jordan Pond House, some 2.5 miles away. To continue circumnavigating Eagle Lake, the trail heads left at Post 8, following a quiet, shady road over some small inclines and downhills until it reaches Post 7, where a left-hand turn takes the trail to a forested carriage road that offers many good views of the lake. At the north end of the lake, the trail takes a sharp left, passes through the Park gates, and returns to Post 6. Interconnecting trails: the Aunt Betty Pond Loop at Post 9, the Bubble-Jordan Pond Loop at Post 8, and the Around-the-Mountain Loop at Post 10.
