Carriage Roads Details
The carriage roads provide 45 miles of broken stone roads which weave around the mountains and pass through the valleys of the Park. Eagle Lake area is an excellent starting point for exploring the carriage roads. It's centrally located and provides a number of different options for trips. This also serves as the unloading area for the Island Explorer's Bicycle Express which leaves from the Village Green in Bar Harbor. Although the Jordan Pond area provides good access to the carriage road system, many of the carriage roads to the south of Jordan Pond are on private property and off-limits to cyclists (but not horses or walkers). The suggested routes in Chimani Acadia are for bikers and ambitious walkers, but anyone can travel a short distance on the roads to experience their flavor.
