Cadillac Summit Loop Trail Details
Cadillac Summit Loop Trail is a short, level trail around the summit of Cadillac Mountain that is accessible from the Park Loop Road terminus and the many trails that climb to the summit. The paved path around the island's highest peak offers breathtaking views of Frenchman Bay and the surrounding Acadian archipelago, accented by a series of plaques describing the spectacular geology of Mt. Desert Island. Find the first, a memorial plaque for Stephan Tyng Mather, one of the National Park Service founders, on a pink granite boulder near the trailhead. Be sure to walk only on designated trails and on granite surfaces to avoid trampling slow-growing sub-alpine plants. Help protect the historic Bates cairn trail markers by not adding rock pile graffiti to them.
