Blackwoods Campground Details

Blackwoods Campground is the primary campground in Acadia National Park, located on the east side of Mount Desert Island, approximately 5 miles (8 km) south of Bar Harbor along Route 3. It offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the stunning natural beauty of Acadia, with easy access to iconic park attractions, including Cadillac Mountain, Sand Beach, and numerous scenic hiking trails. Blackwoods Campground is open from early May through mid October. All campsites require advance reservations through Recreation.gov, as reservations cannot be made in person at the campground. Ninety percent of campsites are available six months in advance, released on the first of each month at 10 AM EST. The remaining ten percent become available on a rolling basis, released at 10 AM EST, 14 days prior to the desired arrival date. Same-day reservations may be made if sites are available. Camping fees must be paid at the time of reservation. The cost for tent, camper, and motor home sites is $30 per night, while group tent sites are $60 per night. The campground is well-situated for exploring Acadia and is serviced by the Island Explorer Shuttle, a free and wheelchair-accessible bus system that provides convenient transportation to campgrounds, carriage roads, and trailheads. Shuttle service operates from late June to mid-October. No winter or off-season camping is allowed. The campground's front gates remain closed until reopening in spring. All camping fees must be paid at the time of reservation through Recreation.gov. Blackwoods Campground is a perfect base for exploring Acadia, offering a tranquil forested setting, direct access to outdoor adventures, and a seamless reservation system to plan your trip efficiently.
