Camping Details

There are three developed campgrounds in the park: Mammoth Cave, Houchin Ferry, and Maple Springs. Mammoth Cave and Maple Springs Campgrounds have group sites. Mammoth Cave is the most developed campground with 105 individual and RV sites, and 4 group sites. RVs are permitted and there is a dump station, but there are no hookups. There are grills and tables, a camp store, flush toilets, water spigots, and showers and coin laundry available. Houchin Ferry has 12 sites. There are grills and tables, toilets, and water spigots. Large groups are not permitted. Maple Springs has 4 equestrian sites and 3 group sites. There are no RV sites. Campsites have grills and tables, and toilets and water spigots are available. Reservations are recommended for camping at the Mammoth Cave Campground; regular sites are $20 ($10 with senior or access pass) and group sites are $25. Reservations are required at the Maple Springs Group Campground; regular group sites are $25, horseback sites with hookups are $35, and horseback sites without hookups are $25. No reservations are taken for campsites at Houchin Ferry Campground; the sites are $12 ($6 with senior or access pass) and are first-come, first-serve. There also are designated backcountry sites in the park. A free backcountry-use permit is required for all backcountry camping, including camping on riverbeds and islands in the rivers. Maximum group size is limited to eight people per campsite, and no more than two tents. Camping must not exceed 14 consecutive days. When backcountry camping, human waste must be disposed of in a cathole 6-8 inches deep and 200 feet from water sources, trails, and campsites. All trash must be packed out.
