You do not have to head far out of the city to see some of Mother Nature is most beautiful, winged creatures. This birdwatching spot is located right on the shores of Lake Michigan just a few miles north of Chicago. This lush peninsula has recorded over 300 different species of birds, many of which can be seen in the low bushes or small shrubs. There is also a large pier that jets into the lake that allows birdwatching to look for shorebirds and waterfowl. Because this area is not ideal for breeding, most birds only come during the migration period (spring and fall), although Snowy Owls, Snow Bunting, and Lapland Longspurs can be spotted here in winter.
