Extending into Lake Michigan like an outstretched arm, this beach is the largest public beach in the entire city. This 1,000-acre piece of land is surprisingly made entirely of landfall that was dumped here in the 1920s (although you would not be able to tell from how beautiful it is today). To the south of the beach is a rural habitat for migrating birds and native plant life. You can participate in a variety of activities during your visit, including kayaking, swimming, volleyball, and even cycling. There is also a fenced-in dog park in case you want to let Fido off-leash for a little run.
