Kid-Friendly Options Details
Haleakala National Park offers a number of kid-friendly activities. Anyone with a library card can borrow a "Backpack Haleakala!" bag, which is filled with books, binoculars, a camera, and an activity packet about the park. Families can pick up the backpacks at the Makawao Public Library on the way into the park with a driver's license or ID card, and the entrance fee will be waived for the vehicle. For more details on the program, call Makawao Public Library at 808-573-8785. Once inside, kids can participate in the Junior Ranger program. To become a Haleakala Junior Ranger, families can request the free, full-color Junior Ranger activity booklet at any visitor center. After reviewing their work with a ranger at any visitor center or mailing it in, participants are awarded an official Junior Ranger badge.
