The Keonehe'ehe'e Trailhead is adjacent to the Haleakala Visitor Center near the park summit and marks the beginning of the Keonehe'ehe'e (Sliding Sands) Trail. There is parking at the trailhead and other facilities at the visitor center. The trail, considered one of the most scenic in the world, leads down into the Haleakala "crater" and eventually to the Kapalaoa and Paliku cabins (5.6 and 14.8 miles, respectively). For a quick taste of the trail, walk a quarter-mile to the first overlook. You can also connect to the Halemau'u and Kaupo Trails from here.
