The Keonehe'ehe'e Trail, better known by its English name, Sliding Sands, is one of the most spectacular hiking trails in Haleakala National Park. Starting near the Haleakala Visitor Center, the trail tracks east across the cinder-cone dotted desert of the Haleakala crater for 5.6 miles to the Kapalaoa Cabin, or you can continue for another 3.6 miles to Paliku and the intersection with the Kaupo Trail. Several spur trails along the way make connections to the Halemau'u Trail.
