Bartram Trail Details
This trail winds across state lines into North Carolina for a total of 115 miles, although this section in Georgia is only 36.5 miles long itself. It traces the steps of William Bartram, an 18th-century naturalist who traveled the southern states researching nature trails and botanical gardens. Bartram made his way up to Rabun Bald, a 4,696-foot mountain that looms over the lush surroundings of Sky Valley. You will also make your way up to the summit (enjoy the sweeping views) before heading back into the forest to see waterfalls, rivers, and rocky outcrops. It is a long hike but well worth the effort. You know a trek up Georgias second-tallest mountain is guaranteed to have some of the best views in the state.
