Trees & Plants Details
While some come for the fauna, others are fascinated by the flora of the Everglades. Because of it's unique location at the medium between North America and the tropics, the park attracts species from both climates. Over 120 species of trees have been identified in the park, with more being discovered frequently. There are nine distinct ecosystems that have been identified in the Everglades, all serving a unique and important part of the park habitat as a whole. Within these ecosystems, visitors will find cacti, lichen, mangroves, orchids, airplants, wildflowers, and a few alien species that are not native to South Florida. Regardless, keep your eyes peeled and put on your naturalist shirt, because there's plenty to see and learn about the plants that will surround you as you traverse the park.
