The Florida National Scenic Trail, stretching 1,300 miles from the edge of the Everglades to Pensacola Beach, provides an opportunity to explore the biodiversity, history, and culture of Florida on foot. While few attempt to thru-hike the trail, section-hiking is popular since trailheads are often less than an hour away from major Florida communities. About 38 miles of the Florida Trail runs through Big Cypress National Preserve, and this also happens to be one of the most remote sections of the trail. Be prepared to get wet: hiking in here can mean ankle- to knee-deep wading in many places.
