FAQ Details
Answers to some frequently asked questions about the Everglades, courtesy of the National Park Service: **What are the park operating hours?** The Homestead Entrance is open 24/7, every day of the year. This does not mean that it is manned everyday, however, but visitors can enter and exit as they please. You will not get locked in the park overnight. **How much are the entrance fees to the park?** If traveling by car, you will pay $20, which lasts for 7 days. If traveling by another method of transportation, see Entrance Fees. If you have an annual pass that you left at home, you will have to pay, as the NPS does not have a database of passes. **What is the difference between an alligator and a crocodile?** Alligators mainly live in freshwater while crocodiles tend to stick to salt or brackish water. Everglades National Park is the only place in the world you may spot gators and crocs in the same body of water, such as in Paurotis or Nine Mile Pond. **Has anyone in the park ever been hurt by an alligator?** No, no one has been hurt. Urban gators tend to be more aggressive because they have been fed, but as no one feeds gators in the park they tend to be passive and not associate humans with food. Moral of the story: don't feed the gators!
