Spend a night (or more) under the South Florida skies.
Plan Around Camping
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Camping Details
Everglades National Park has great options for both frontcountry and backcountry camping. Note that while camping is available year-round, it is more pleasant in the dry season (November-April) when you don't have to deal with the heat, humidity, and bugs typical of South Florida summers. There are no nearby options to rent camping equipment, so make sure you are well prepared. Two campsites are available in the frontcountry: Long Pine Key Campground and Flamingo Campground. Both have drive-in sites, tent sites, and RV sites with an option for electrical hookups. A limited number of group sites (maximum 15 people) are also available. Reservations are recommended at Flamingo during the busy winter months. At Long Pine Key, 108 drive-up sites are available, first-come, first-served, for $20 per night. The park does not take reservations for these. If you are traveling with more than 15 people, reservations for group camping can be made by calling 1-877-444-6777 after Nov. 20, or online at [http://www.recreation.gov/](http://www.recreation.gov/). At Flamingo, 235 drive-up sites are available for $20 per night. Unlike Long Pine Key, you can and should make reservations as the winter season gets very busy. Electrical access and hookups are available in 41 of the sites in the T-loop. These sites are $30 a night. There are also backcountry sites available throughout the park, ranging from ground and beach sites to raised camping platforms called chickees. Most of these sites can be reached via boat, while a few are only accessible via hiking trail. Backcountry permits are required for these sites and can be purchased the day of or the day before your overnight stay at the Flamingo Visitor Center, the Gulf Coast Visitor Center, or the park entrance in Homestead. Note that you cannot reserve any backcountry campsite in the Everglades, and that the maximum stay is two weeks.
