Windjammer Wreck Details

Considered the most popular dive of Dry Tortugas, this site is the wreck of the Norwegian Avanti sailing vessel. The cause of the 1901 shipwreck was never determined, although experts speculate that the ship got lost in a storm. These days the boat forms an artificial reef that attracts a wealth of tropical fish. Be sure to grab an underwater laminated map at the Visitor Center before setting out. Use the map to locate points of interest such as the bow and the stern of the boat. Depths range from 0-20 feet. A portion of the wreckage even breaks through the water, making it a sight to behold whether above or below sea level!
