Parade Ground Details
The eight acre parade ground lies in the middle of Fort Jefferson and was designed an area for soldiers to march, train, and prepare for battle. The grounds also offered room for barracks for the soldiers stationed on the island. The foundations can still be seen today. Fort Jefferson was constantly under construction during its "active" years, so the grounds served as the perfect staging ground for much of the construction.
