Volunteer Details
As one of the largest volunteer programs in the National Park Service, the park benefits from the efforts of approximately 1,700 volunteers every year. Their contributions are valued at over $2 million. Volunteers are involved in virtually every aspect of park operations. Some work full-time during the summer season, while others may work one day a week or even for a few hours on a special project. While we have far more applicants than positions, we are always looking for enthusiastic and energetic people. Competition for positions is highest during the summer months. Your chances of being selected as a volunteer are increased if you are able to provide your own housing. Volunteers can expect physically demanding working conditions due to the park environment. This mountain park is characterized by high elevations (from about 8,000 to 11,800 feet above sea level), a dry climate and highly changeable weather. These conditions can cause altitude sickness and may aggravate existing medical conditions, particularly respiratory problems. The nature of the work at the park is challenging - but rewarding! Anyone interested in volunteering at Rocky Mountain National Park must fill out and mail in a volunteer application. For more information regarding the Rocky Mountain National Park volunteer program, please contact the park Volunteer Coordinator at 970-586-1330, or by e-mail.
