Kid-Friendly Activities Details

Like adults, children can best experience Rocky Mountain National Park by getting out of the car and onto a hiking trail: for beginners, the low-altitude parts of the park have many flat and relatively easy trails to explore, like the Moraine Park Nature Trail, Sprague Lake Nature Trail, and Bear Lake Trail. Gem Lake is particularly recommended for its easy rock-climbing areas. Seeing wildlife is always a thrill for kids, who can see bighorn sheep at Sheep Lake and herds of elk from the park roads. The Beaver Boardwalk is a great place to see these dam-building aquatic mammals. The park has a Junior Ranger program and a variety of ranger-led programs aimed at children. Kids will also enjoy a guided horseback ride and exploring the exhibits at the Moraine Park Museum. During winter, the best place for kids to be is sledding the slopes of the former Hidden Valley Ski Area.
