Kid-Friendly Options Details
There's a ton for kids to do and enjoy in Great Sand Dunes National Park. Children can play in Medano Creek, go sandboarding, explore the trails in the grasslands or in the mountains, and earn a Junior Ranger badge while they're at it. Designed for ages 3-12, the Junior Ranger program is a great way for kids to learn about and see the park. Complete each age-appropriate section in the booklet (which can be acquired at the visitor center) to earn a badge or a patch. Usually, the booklets take about two hours to complete. Great Sand Dunes also holds a Junior Ranger Day every year, sponsored by Friends of the Dunes. Kids are invited to participate and complete to win t-shirts and other small prizes.
