High Dune Details
High Dune gets a bit more visitors than Star Dune due to its prominent summit: from the visitor center, it seems like High Dune is the tallest dune in the park. High Dune's exact height and location varies over time due to shifting, wind-blown sand. However, with a typical height of about 650 feet off the valley floor, High Dune is actually about 100 feet shorter than Star Dune. Still, it's a great destination if you want to experience the dunes from a lofty perch: the summit also ofers nice views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains to the north.
