Buck Creek Details
One of the park's designated backcountry campsites, Buck Creek Falls is located on the Sand Ramp Trail, which runs between the dune field and the Sangre de Cristo mountains. The campsites here, as a whole, are a little more sheltered from wind and weather than those on the dunes, and have great shade. On the other hand, they are fairly far from reliable water sources: it is possible to obtain water from Buck Creek, but be aware that the flow is intermittent with water levels highest from April to June. All sites are primitive. Pets are not allowed in the backcountry. Practice Leave No Trace principles if you are heading out into the backcountry. Sites are limited to one party of up to six people.
