Biking Details
Regular road biking and mountain biking options within Great Sand Dunes are extremely limited; however, the latest fat-tired bikes makes the dunes much more accessible to riders. Fat bikes are allowed on the Medano Pass Road, which is comprised partially of gravel, creek crossings, rocks, and sand. Check road conditions before heading out, as soft sand can make for a grueling (or even impossible) trip. Note that you'll be sharing the road with vehicles, and while visitors are advised to drive slowly, wear bright colors and listen for the sound of approaching cars as you pedal.
