S.O.B Draw Route Details
This inner-canyon route is the North Rim equivalent to the South Rim's Gunnison Route, and is highly recommended for first-time inner-canyon hikers. The trail leaves from an access ladder near the North Rim Campground and follows a drainage until it drops over the rim and you begin the true descent. Unlike the trails on the South Rim, the S.O.B Draw has a couple of ledges that require some serious mid-descent scrambling to get around; just like on the South Rim, the trail itself is primarily loose dirt and rocks. Take your time, and go slowly. The trail technically terminates when it levels out, but it's easy to follow the rock cairns for two miles to the riverside. Six backcountry campsites are available downstream. Note: this trail has notoriously bad poison ivy. Wear long pants and be sure to bring an appropriate first-aid kit.
