North Vista Trail Details
This trail offers many scenic views between North Rim Ranger Station and Green Mountain, including the very popular Exclamation Point(!) The trailhead can be found at the North Rim Ranger Station, where the North Rim Road splits. This well-maintained, well-marked trail begins easy and wanders gently through a light pinyon and forest, breaking off frequently to access the many outlooks along canyon rim. The trail then drops over a small scramble, and presents the option of heading 1.5 miles to Exclamation Point, which is the perfect name to accompany the stunning views of the Gunnison River far below. Many hikers consider Exclamation Point the final destination of the North Vista Trail, but it does keep going up a gradually steeper forested slope to the summit of Green Mountain. Maybe it's the name of the summit, or the additional elevation, but the 360-degrees make the entire canyon rim look alive with plant life, and the canyon itself looks impossibly narrow. From Green Mountain, backpackers can access trails to Gunnison Gorge and beyond.
